Maiden T20 century by Biplab Samantray and a dashing half-century by captain Govind Poddar went in vain as host Odisha went down fighting to Maharashtra by four wickets in their Group D league match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Tournament here at Barabati Stadium today. This was the third successive defeat for Odisha, who will play their fourth match against Services at DRIEMS Ground on January 7.
Electing to bat, Odisha rode on a 155-run alliance for the third wicket between Samantray and Poddar to compile a healthy total of 183 for four. Samanantray slammed 102 off 59 balls (8x4, 6x6), while Poddar hit 63 off 43 balls (2x4, 5x6).
But the superb batting efforts of Samantray and Poddar did not prove enough for Odisha to win the match as Maharashtra overhauled the target in the last ball of the exciting match. M Barik and Rishikesh Das made their T20 debut for Odisha in this match.
